His invention was inspired by his patients and wife who felt embarrassed during their periods. Before the invention of tampons, Egypt women used disposable tampons that were made of softened papyrus while Japanese used paper. Even in the middle ages, the church was against the introduction of any object that could tamper with the vagina. For a long period, it was considered a sin, which made women subject of deprecatory remarks. People would easily notice when women were menstruating because of how they behaved during this period. They were ashamed and embarrassed and sometimes felt guilty due to some comments that made them believe that menstruation was a curse and not a natural cycle. There were several myths and superstitions regarding menstruation, which made them more frustrated.
The invention of Tampax tampons was a great revolution in the lives of women. Previously, they had been constrained to the traditional taboos that made them believe that use of tampons when menstruating was unhygienic.
