The affordable care act was enacted in 2010. The primary aim of this act was to provide health care services to a broader population and better their living standards. The bill was also aimed at lowering the cost of medical care provided through the application of current technologies in service delivery. The law also helped in the expansion of medical care to the low-income earners in society by providing them with affordable health care. Several changes were made to this act with the intention of making it easier to achieve its goals.
The first change was the introduction of the employer mandate for the companies with more than 50 full-time employees with health care insurance. Companies who were unwilling to provide the insurance cover to their employees were supposed to pay penalties for not complying with the requirements of this act. The change covered the well-being of the employees from all the health risk instances that may arise in their line of work. The second change was the new definition of a full-time worker of an organization. Previously a full-time worker was anyone who worked 40 hours per week, but this definition was changed to cater to all those workers who work for 30 hours per week. These hours were criticized since they were seen to be too low, but this was an advantage on the side of the workers (Blumenthal, Abrams, & Nuzum, 2015).
The third change was the provision of the Cadillac tax that involves a 40% taxation on all health care insurances that are beyond the set statutory limit. Though this tax has not yet been implemented, it will make the lives of families harder by increasing their monthly payable subscription. The final change was the introduction of a 10% tax, which was to be made on all indoor tanning salons.
