The history of the United States has seen many great women rise to high positions in the society. However, not many people understand how they contributed in the domain of leadership. A lot of women have featured in historical documents as individuals who changed the society in numerous ways. It is important to ensure that their work is recognized. Harriet Louise Adderley was important in the fight against racial discrimination in the United States.

Harriet Louise Adderley was one of the great African American women leaders. She was pivotal in the fight against racial segregation (Adams 7). Her most notable achievement was where she joined other people to protest against racial segregation especially in jail. Her fellow students had been arrested and the Florida justice system had put them in a segregated jail. Her efforts were supported by the state appellate court.

Harriet proved that women from the African American community can become effective leaders. She gathered over 200 individuals to protest against the unlawful arrest of students (Kinser 223). She then rallied the friends to ensure that they block a jail way of a public prison. Her activities led her to court whereby she won the case. It is clear that she paved the way for other women to have the ability to engage in free speech (Parker 77). It was crucial for her not to just watch racially discriminative activities but to act decisively.

African American women have contributed greatly to the wellbeing of the United States. They were important especially in the fight against racial segregation. However, the country has not been faithful in ensuring that the women are celebrated. Harriet Louise Adderley came out to strongly defend the rights and freedoms of the African American community.
