In the way of aikido, George Leonard describes the blending technique. The technique involves dealing with a verbal or physical adversary by looking at issues from their perspective (Leonard 37). In light of the technique, the end result focuses on reaching a consensus regarding an issue. The author argues that retaliating verbally or physically can be detrimental when it comes to dealing with an undesirable experience. Responding to an attack either physically or verbally in the same way as the attacker can only have three outcomes. An individual can win, lose or there could be a stalemate whereby the solution cannot be found in any of the three outcomes.

When it comes to physical confrontations, a person can move towards an attacker at the moment the latter initiates an attack.
