Business Ethics

I agree that the business industries are targeting minority communities with their advertisements. The companies hide their exploitative strategies using the notion of market segmentation, whereby they argue that they are giving each group of consumers what they want. However, the minority communities, particularly the Latinos and African Americans, are extremely vulnerable to diabetes, obesity, and heart-related conditions (Nestle). This is because they cannot afford the healthcare services and products required to lengthen their life expectancies in a healthcare system that seems to favor the rich people. It breaks my heart to see the minority groups being targeted using big names in the entertainment industry, who have a significant say in what the members of their community do. People are attracted to behaving, wearing, and eating like celebrities; hence, they will be interested in consuming the same soft drinks as them.

Just like jobs, housing, and schools, healthy food options are not easily accessible in low-income communities. Junk marketing reinforces racism through the power of the media and the culture of consumerism to create a society that is dependent on junk and unhealthy foods. The marketing has developed considerable racial health variations and contributed to the high mortality and health gaps between the Whites and minority groups (Isselmann et al. 1316). These inequalities are worth calling for the ban of junk food advertising amongst the disadvantaged communities. More studies are necessary to explore the significant differences in the consumption of soda and junk food between the Whites and minority communities.......GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
