Introduction

Cancer is among the top three causes of death in the United States and the world. It is a collection of illnesses depicted by the uncontrollable development and growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body. If the cells are not identified early enough to control their spread, they can interrupt critical life-sustaining systems and result in the death of the person. No one is immune to cancer. However, the risk of obtaining the disease largely depends on the age of a person, genetic composition, and exposure to carcinogens, such as smoke and toxic chemicals. Among the different forms of cancer, lung cancer accounts for the most deaths in women and men. Cancer is a medical issue, which means that the control of the illness relies on early medical intervention. However, various social factors can aid in eradicating and mitigating cancer as exhibited in the sociological analysis below.

The Medical Viewpoint of Cancer

According to the World Health Organization (2018), cancer can affect any part of the body by introducing neoplasms and malignant tumors. The rapidly created abnormal cells invade adjoining body parts and spread to different organs in a process known as metastasization. The metastases are the primary causes of deaths linked to cancer. Cancer exists in various forms, including lung cancer, breast, stomach, colorectal, skin cancer, and prostate. The spread of the illness stems from risk factors in the lifestyle, age, and genetics of a person. The risk factors are the use of tobacco, an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, STIs, and alcohol use.

The main way that healthcare practitioners suggest that people can reduce the risk of acquiring cancer is through preventive measures whereby they avoid risk factors and use existing evidence-based practice prevention mechanisms. For instance, a person can avoid foods and activities that increase the likelihood of obtaining the illness, such as eating excessive meat and processed foods, being obese, sexual promiscuity, drug use, and so on (World Health Organization, 2018). ..................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
