The country has a large poor population that is never covered in the daily news since they remain unknown. The idea has seen the population suffer in silence while the whole world assumes they live excellent lives. The nation herself has ensured that the people living in poverty are out of the news while the rich are given an audience. The civil rights act of the United States came after African Americans had fought for it over many years but it came with advantages and shortcomings as well.
The 1962 article, “The other America,” was written by Michael Harrington. The author showcases the different sides of the United States. As mentioned earlier, the nation has two sides whereby the rich and poor are not treated equally. The article affirms the idea that the United States hides the plight of the poor while focusing on the rich. The author ensures that people understand the different sides of the United States (Harrington 2). In light of the author, the United States ought to focus upon the idea of assisting people to escape poverty.
