Climatic Change and Homelessness Question and Answer

PART I: Climate Change

  1. How does climate change disproportionately affect Pacific Islanders, especially on relatively smaller islands such as Kiribati and Tuvalu? Provide examples.

The rising level of water in the oceans and the strong tides cause a threat to the people living on the Island. Research has shown that there is a high likelihood of the loss of lives and property because of the environmental change (Pacific Community, 2015). Ocean acidification and rising of temperature also pose a threat to the Islanders because fish and tourism are the major sources of food and livelihood to them.

  1. Do you think climate change impacts Pacific Islanders equally? How do you think the Western world has contributed to the effects of climate change in the Pacific? Provide examples.

The climatic changes do not affect the Pacific Islanders equally because some islands are larger and raised higher from the ocean. This makes it harder for the strong tides to affect them, unlike the other smaller island such as Kiribati and Tuvalu (AJ+ Docs, 2014). The western countries are to blame for the temperature changes because of the pollutant gasses released into the air by large companies. Such gases include carbon (IV) oxide which causes global warming.

  1. Can there be such a thing as climate change refugees, especially in the particular case of Kiribati and Tuvalu peoples seeking to relocate to New Zealand and other places? Should the United States, China, and other countries contributing substantially to the increase of carbon emissions take responsibility for mitigating climate change and taking in climate change refugees? Why or why not.

There can indeed be climatic change refugees who flee their home due to fear of losing their lives from the strong tides, which highly affects smaller islands like Kiribati and Tuvalu.......................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
