            General ability tests have been prominently used by many organizations since the early 20th century. They were originally developed for utilization in educational psychology, but have since been incorporated into the business sector to aid in measuring the best-fit candidates for a job. The tests measure various aspects, ranging from computational skills, personality, verbal skills, intelligence, and aptitude. However, based on the situation under discussion, it was not necessary to test the candidates since the company employed all of them. But, for legal purposes, the assessments had to be provided to all the applicants to provide justifications in case the organization decided not to hire one of the candidates.

            In most cases, when you employ people due to hiring pressures and the test is a valid measure for the applicants’ motivation fit for the job position, then the candidates who scored highly will exceed or meet the requirements for the job. However, those who scored low would be less likely to meet or exceed the needs of the job. Hence, the organization will have to spend more on managing their performance to develop their skills and possibly replace them if they end up being terminated (Hoffman et al., 2015). The job satisfaction of those who scored low may also be lower, which could lead to a high voluntary attrition rate and low productivity levels.

            To measure the criterion validity of the general test ability to affirm the above assumptions about the candidates, I will need to correlate the predicted scores with those obtained from the criterion used to measure the candidates. The criterion-validity requires the evaluator to perform a job analysis so that tasks for the position can be established. For instance, if it is a sales and marketing job position, verbal skills might be necessary to interact and entice the clients to buy products or invest in the firm (Heneman, Judge & Heneman, 2014).
