The sector of health care deserves good ethical conduct. It is good to understand that success in clinical laboratory calls for more than knowledge. The United States has seen the occurrence of unethical undertakings in clinical laboratory. The cases have opened the eyes of people to ensure that they are careful while seeking medical attention. The field of clinical laboratory has been compromised by the lack of ethical standards.
In light of ASCP guidelines and my experience in medical laboratory science, my perceptions regarding ethical behaviour have changed. There are reasons to support my reasoning. It comes out that ethics have been undermined in medical laboratory. The reason is because most practitioners value monetary gain as opposed to the health of patients. It comes out that companies have been set up to bring people fame and money as opposed to better health. For instance, powerful people to see to it that Elizabeth Holmes becomes successful established companies like Theranos (Cagan). The entity ensured that it misleads the American public. It utilized tools owned by other companies to set up an incompetent system. The entity used marketed a fake idea that they had superior blood testing tools.
I think fame and riches motivate many Americans practising clinical laboratory. They are not patient to ensure that they gather enough information regarding their trade. Therefore, they come out of school and commence on big projects that gamble with the lives of patients. In the past, people who wanted to practice clinical laboratory ensured that they completed their studies. However, individuals like Elizabeth Holmes did not adhere to the ACLS and ASCP code of ethics (Cagan). The ethical standards that guided the field have been ignored in the present times.
It comes out that practitioners no longer strive to maintain an excellent reputation. They have ignored integrity, reliability as well as honesty. Thereby, people like Renee Bach have been witnessed in the recent past (Rendleman). Her story is one of the greatest indicators of the compromise of ethics in clinical laboratory. It comes out that she disregards the idea of the maintenance of honesty and integrity. Her action of going to a foreign nation to treat people is proof of her contempt of the field. It can be seen that she was untrained in the field of clinical laboratory.
