Guyana’s Independence Paper

Guyana is a country located in the northern part of South America. The first people to settle in this land were the Normand. After a very long time other inhabitants migrated into this land and they were divided into two groups, that is, the Arawak who lived along the coast and the Caribe who lived in the interior. Guyana was a center of interest to many different countries, such as Spain, British and the Dutch who were the first visitors into the country.

Before this land was colonized by the British, the Dutch monopolized Guyana by the dominating the trading grounds. The Dutch were the first people to visit Guyana and they noted how strategic Guyana was for business when they decided to start business activities in the land. Business was a major source of attraction to the British and other countries who visited this land. The Dutch allowed the British to migrate in to the country by promising them settlement and ownership of land.

The Dutch plantations were very fertile and had not been affected by soil erosion like the British plantations. The moment the Dutch allowed the British to gain ownership of land in their plantations very many Britons migrated in to these plantations although most of the land was still owned by the Dutch (Ishmael, 2013). .

Guyana was being competed for by the Spanish, the British, and the Dutch before the country finally gained independence on 26th May, 1966. The war towards independence was very hard, but a systematic process which included the development of revolution movements which championed the independence. Some of the early political parties that were involved in fighting for independence back in the days include Cheddi Jagan, which was the first political party to be created, and the Linden Forbes Burnham (Hope, 1985).....................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
