Healthcare Bias Paper

Bias is a common issue that affects nursing practitioners. It involves prejudices that might compromise how a health officer provides professional service. Bias can impact health care provision in many settings. A negative evaluation of certain people can have negative outcomes in the interaction of the involved parties. Personal biases affect the service of a nursing practitioner and they can be eliminated through travelling to different areas for a diverse experience.

As a nursing practitioner, I have a personal bias. I have for a long time held a prejudice involving locations and the races they contain. For instance, I believe that suburbs have better equipped hospitals that are manned by a superior workforce. I thought that majority of African and Hispanic Americans lived in the areas with poor healthcare. The issue emanated from the fact that I have always seen low-income neighborhoods struggle in health care and security issues (Byrne & Tanesini, 2015). The issue has affected me in a negative way since I always as questions that seem offensive to some of my Hispanic and African American clients.

As mentioned earlier, bias can compromise patient-nurse relations. Therefore, I developed a strategy to deal with my bias. I have begun travelling to different areas to ensure that I deal with my bias. The travelling has helped me learn about African and Hispanic Americans in regard to their residential areas (FitzGerald & Hurst, 2017). I have also begun to change my conversations to ensure that I eliminate any seemingly offensive remarks. The movement from place to another has ensured that I understand the best way to talk to my Hispanic and African American patients.

Health care personnel must ensure that they rid themselves of bias. A bias-free individual can provide the best service in the domain of healthcare. Travelling can ensure that a biased person changes his/her outlook in life. It is crucial to respect every stakeholder in the healthcare sector. Every health official must conduct a self-inventory on personal biases..................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
