1.How did rivalries among the kingdoms of late medieval Iberia (Portugal, Castile, Aragon) affect exploration and trading voyages in Africa and India?

Around the eighth century, Muslims conquered the Christian Kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula and fixed their capital at Cὀrdoba. At the opening of the eleventh century, the Christian Kingdoms conquered the Muslims due to weaknesses in their States and wars among themselves [1]. By the thirteenth century, the Christian territories of Aragon, Castile, and Portugal had reduced greatly the power of the Muslims and they only settled in the Kingdom of Granada. Although the Christian leaders united in the fight against Muslims, they competed for more power among themselves. For example, around the period of the 1460s, Castile and Aragon were involved in civil wars, which were later calmed down when the heiress of Castile married the prince of Aragon. Both Kingdoms still continued to pursue their fights against the Muslim territory of Granada. They drove out the Muslims in the South and this prompted them to look for trade openings and routes to overseas.

All the three kingdoms of Portugal, Castile, and Aragon began looking to expand their kingdoms and wealth outside the Iberian Peninsula by the fifteenth century. They extended their rivalry overseas in trading voyages and explorations and even sought to compete in conquering many colonies in Africa and India[2]. The royal families supported the explorers by offering them ship and even fund to support them in their expansion mission. When they arrived in Africa and India, the Europeans explained to the African and Indian leaders their fights for supremacy among the monarchs. They did so in diplomatic ways, which enabled them to garner the support
