Abstract

The development of technology and infrastructure has played a chief role in structuring the information garnered by the public on both traditional media platforms and social media. In this paper an examination on how Emma Watson has been presented on these platforms has been put forward. According to the study, Emma Watson has been depicted as talented actress, model and a humanitarian who advocates for education especially for the girl child. In addition to this, Watson has been featured as an anti-feminists who seeks gender equality for both men and women. Aside from this, social media has sexualized the image of Emma Watson with a group of online bullies targeting her on the website 4Chan. According to Watson, the pitfall of social media in prying into the private lives of the actress is that it robs of their childhood innocence. This more so because prevalence of social media has forced her to be overly cautious of her public image.
