Loki and Anansi Research Paper

I thought Loki and Anansi were characters formulated for authors to earn money. The characters come from Scandinavia and Ghana respectively. There are numerous ways in which they can be seen. I have gathered that Loki and Anansi play tricks that have both positive and negative aspects.

“How wisdom came into the world” and “The children of Odin” are stories that shed light on the characters of Anansi and Loki respectively. The stories show that Loki and Anansi have both positive and negative attributes. Their positive attributes have to do with their ability to entertain. Their tricks ensure that people enjoy reading the stories. The characters also ensure that children become creative (Sproul, 1979). The negative aspect of their characters comes out where they bring confusion into the society.

There are certain acts which define their characters to the utmost. The reason is because they show the tricks they played to the characters in the stories. In “how wisdom came into the world” Anansi’s trickster character comes out clearly (Sproul, 1979). He attempts to take all the knowledge from people to hide it for his benefit. He wanted to secretly collect information to ensure that it benefits him alone at the expense of the society. In “The children of Odin” Loki steals a hoard from a dwarf. The act is an indication of how Loki tricks people and takes their property for his benefit (Colum & Pogany, 1996). The story shows that Loki is an individual who utilizes the suffering of other people to enjoy good things. He uses machinations to acquire ill-gotten possessions.

Loki and Anansi are great tricksters. Their behaviors in different stories prove that they try to confuse other characters. Their characters can be related to each other regardless of their diverse origins. Their characters are both positive and negative.
