Introduction

A mixed research is a study design that incorporates in one setting the philosophical assumptions as well as the inquiry methodologies. The technique utilized in this study entails utilizing philosophical assumptions which directs the collection and examination of data and, the combination quantitative and qualitative in either a single or myriad of research studies. The core premise of these research studies is the utilization of qualitative and quantitative perspectives in combination so as to provide a better comprehension of research problem (Creswell & Clark, 2011). There are three main types of mixed method research namely convergent parallel mixed method research, explanatory sequential mixed method and, exploratory sequential mixed method research. The main objective of this paper is to compare and contrast the validity and reliability of these mixed method research.

Convergent Parallel Mixed Method Research

The design of this study is such that the researcher utilizes both the qualitative and quantitative techniques concurrently throughout the process. A comparison of this study over the other research studies is it is very reliable. This is because it uses both qualitative and quantitative techniques to examine data and provide a feasible solution to the research problem. The relevance of qualitative data is that it empowers the researcher to collect data through observations, interviews and historical records (Holloha, 2014).
