            Performance management system is the process by which an organization involves its employees in making important decisions and carrying out any other task that is aimed in meeting the organizational objectives. It is very important in making the employees feel involved as a part of the organization and thus they feel very comfortable working for the organization. Performance management system plays a major role in making sure that all the organization’s objectives are met.

            Performance management system roles can be arranged in a hierarchy of importance from the most important to the least important as follows: Informational purpose, Strategic purpose, Development purpose, Organizational maintenance purpose and Documentation purpose. This arrangement of the roles of the performance management system improves the effectiveness of the organization (Aguinis, 2013). The roles are as a result of the responsibilities assigned to every employee so that they can help in meeting the aims of the organization. The main aim of the performance management system is to communicate the objectives of the organization to the employees.

            From my own experiences, this ranking should improve the effectiveness of the organization. This is because the employees of the organization must first be informed of the aims that the organization wishes to achieve and thus the informational purpose comes first. The strategic purpose should follow so that the employees can understand the long-term plans and objectives of the organization which makes it easier for them to work according to the organizational plans. The development purpose puts the long-term plans into practice after they have been understood by all the workers of the organization. The organizational maintenance purpose deals with the maintenance of all the resources of the organization that are fundamental in achieving the goals of the organization.
