Philosophy Essay

Introduction

Philosophy is thought to have the most prominent proponents such as the ancient Greek Philosophers who made a significant contribution. Middle age philosophers were not vocal enough as they did not accomplish much during their time though they existed. The medieval philosopher borrowed some ideologies from their Greek predecessors (Most, 2016). The paper contains information on some of the items that medieval philosophers borrowed from the ancient Greek counterparts and also the relationship that existed in the medieval era between religion and philosophy.

Medieval and Ancient Greek Philosophers

Greek philosophy is known to be one of the oldest philosophies in the world dating 6th century BCE. Greek philosophy is divided into three groups that are Hellenistic philosophy, Pre-Socratic philosophy, and Classical Greek philosophy. Most people know of the classical Greek philosophy which constitutes philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates (Zeller, 2014). The three philosophers are recognized in the twenty-first century as proponents of various theories and writings that have changed the world.

Medieval philosophy started in the fifth century C.E. at the fall of Rome all the way to the sixteenth century during the Renaissance. Medieval departed from the Greek philosophies and focused primarily on the monotheistic ideologies with religion taking center stage (Wippel, 2018). One of the most significant thinkers during this time was Thomas Aquinas, a philosopher who focused on dialectic reasoning and logic to discover the truth.

A medieval philosophy built under a foundation laid by the ancient Greek philosophers such as Plato. During the early years of the medieval era, Plato himself did not exist, but his ideas took center stage with the brand Platonic and neo-platonic philosophical thinking.......GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
