Pro-slavery argument Paper

Different publications have been released by various authors to express their ideas on the issue of slaves. George Fitzhugh and Frederick Law Olmsted are the two significant authors who discussed the issue of slavery into details in their publications. Their publications seem to defer with each of them taking different sides on the subject of slavery in the United States. Slavery had been going on for decades in the South and the North, but the South highly depended on slave labor. Frederick would never agree with the idea that Fitzhugh brings out in his discussions.

George Fitzhugh supports the idea of slavery in the south because he believes that black people are children who must be protected by white people. George advocates for people to use slaves in their plantations as sources of labor. His publication states that the Negros cannot survive in the competitive world without the help of the white people who are to guide and make them to be productive. George gives us the difference between the North and the South economy by drawing a distinctive line basing his argument on the uses of the slaves in the two regions. In the North, he says that slavery is ‘free’ in the capitalist economy because the people living in the North wish to live a respectable life. The south, on the other hand, has a slave economy, which only means that this economy is highly dependent on the free labor provided by the slaves (Fitzhugh par 4).

Frederick Law Olmsted, in his publication, seems to criticize slavery by advocating for the abolition of slavery in the world. In his discussion, he identifies slavery as the primary cause of the weak economy that he associates with the south where slavery was seen as an economic activity. The immorality associated with slavery was seen to be the primary cause of retarded social development in the south as compared with the north. Frederick helped in the establishment of the free soil associated with the Republic Party. The free soil was aimed at preventing the spreading of slavery to the west which would increase human suffering in the world (Olmsted, par 6).............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
