Public Good and Governance Paper

Over the centuries, different ideologies were developed by political scholars and other specialists in various fields, such as economics, social work, and philosophy, to explore the organization of society in terms of preserving the interests of the majority or public good. One of the major theories introduced in the discussions, assessments, and debates is communism. The ideology of communism, also known as Marxism, was formulated by Karl Marx and his associate, Friedrich Engels. In the perspective, the two scholars envisioned a society that was dedicated to eradicating monopoly capitalism. By eliminating capitalism and class conflict, communists believe that power can be balanced among the members of the society and order and justice can be maintained to develop a community that upholds public good.

Communism is based on the control of production means in a society, that is, the labor and physical capital utilized to manufacture various goods. In a communist community, the means of production are collectively owned by individuals in society to make sure that they all get what they desire. In this way, social classes are eliminated since everyone has control over what the community produces to fulfill their needs. Communism was developed to combat capitalism, a system in which the production means are limited to the hands of the elite or powerful members of the society (Magstadt, 2017). Capitalism was viewed as a way of exploiting the labor capital of the working class and creating a lower class.

In a communist society, power is balanced among the members of the society, giving them a say in what goes on within the community. Unlike in a capitalistic community where the power is limited to a few people and the gap between the rich and poor continues to widen, communism maintains a system in which everyone can obtain access to social institutions, political, and economic resources that can satisfy their needs. Consequentially, communism establishes equal liability to labor, free education, and state control of the resources in a region. The government reserves the right to preserving order in a communist society (Magstadt, 2017). However, since the government is a representation of the interests of the public, it is more or less an opportunity for citizens to play an active role in maintaining order in the community..........................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
