Sam Houston Book Essay

Sam Houston and Andrew Jackson met in the war of 1812, and they developed a friendship that lasted for years even after the war. Sam took Andrew as his political mentor who gave him advice on what he should do to curb the political problems in the country. The fact that Jackson was older and more experienced in politics developed Sam’s ambitions to view him as a political mentor who introduced him to politics. Advising him to join politics is one of the significant advices that Andrew gave to Sam Houston, which considerably changed his life. Though the two political giants of Tennessee were great friends, they had similarities and differences in carrying out their responsibilities as leaders of Texas.

The significant difference between Sam and Andrew is that Andrew served as the commander of the US army while Sam was just a mere soldier. While in the war Sam’s aggressiveness in the battlefield caught the attention of his commander Andrew Jackson and this marked the beginning of their friendship, which lasted for years. The second and the most significant difference between Andrew and Jackson is that Sam Houston was the only one who was elected to be the governor of two different states. Sam served as the governor of Tennessee while he was married to Eliza Allen and after his marriage failed, he resigned as the governor and moved to Texas where he was elected as a governor after two decades.

The two were also different in the issue about slaves because Jackson supported slavery while Houston was against slavery in the United States. Though Houston owned slaves, he hated the fact that other leaders were fighting for the development of slavery since he associated it within humanity. Jackson became the seventh president of the United States ..............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
