Servant Leadership v Followership paper

Leadership comes in various forms depending on the personality of an individual and the characteristics of the followers. One notable type of leadership is servant leadership, which has been attributed to having a significant impact on the followers. This paper explores the primary attributes of servant leadership and followership and how they complement one another.

Both servant leadership and followership were partially inspired by Jesus Christ. Christ was a servant leader who taught his followers by setting a good example and leading the way for them to follow. He also highlighted in Mark 10: 43 that, “whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be the slave of all.” Consequentially, servant leadership and followership stem from the same origin, the Biblical account of Jesus Christ.

The servant leaders and their followers have a unique relationship based on trust and mutual understanding to deliver the mission of a firm. They both comprehend that the organization’s goals cannot be achieved without developing a common vision and without each other. Hence, the servant leader dedicates a lot of time, effort, and commitment in ensuring that he/she sets the right example (IMNZ, 2018). The followers, on the other hand, are inspired by the actions of their leader.

The primary characteristics of a servant leader include attentiveness, initiative, offering direction, support, and sharing power with the subordinates. Contrastingly, effective followers manage themselves appropriately, are dedicated to a greater purpose, capitalize on their strengths, and take risks (Leibensperger, 2015). .............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
