The issue of slavery can never be separated from the history of the United States. It is good to understand that even though the times have changed, slavery will remain in the history of the United States. The civil war was fought to ensure that the northern and southern parts of the United States defended what they believed their liberties were. Slavery brought about suffering in the white and African American races and it was a hypocritical notion that should not associated with nobility.
The issue of slavery was in the modern times is viewed as being evil. However, in the past it was a human right to some individuals in the United States. Inequality was entrenched in the society of the United States. The issue can be seen by the fact that it was in the constitution (Girardeau 22). Therefore, it was understood that some people were superior when it came to race than others. People of African descent were seen as being inferior to their white counterparts.
Slavery brought division in the United States whereby different factions disagreed. It comes out that some individuals thought slavery was right even in the eyes of religion (Girardeau 16). On the other hand, some individuals felt that the issue was evil since all human beings were created by God. They felt that it was hypocritical to state that one loved God while at the same time hating his/her brothers/sisters. It reached a point where war was inevitable. The northern part of the United States went to was with their southern counterparts.
The war saw losses of lives since white Americans were at war with each other. There came a debate whether the lives were lost for a justified course. Some individuals argue that the civil war saw white Americans lose their lives in futility (Girardeau 22). It comes that the war was about slavery. The individuals were conscripted in the military against their wishes. They fought a war that did not concern them since they did not have a say regarding the national aspects of slavery.
