Social World- Article Review

Thesis: Logical deduction is an essential aspect of creating a sociologically mindful community

Assumptions are commonly made of particular social groups. Notably, the assumptions may be wrong making the process of understanding how the social world works. The primary way to understand the social world is through logical deduction where the premises are evaluated and lead to a conclusion (Schwalbe 33). The premises are guided by factors such as personal experiences and the acquired knowledge. Notably, through a systemic approach to research, such biases of social groups can be avoided (Schwalbe 34). For instance, in research involving social workers, the women have commonly cited being regarded as fallen women, which is a biased assumption. The systemic analysis would then help eradicate such misconceptions (Sterk 35). More so, reliable facts are provided and can guide the conclusions made regarding particular social groups.

Certain questions, however, arise in the process of making unbiased conclusions. The questions may be empirical or require an interpretation. What’s important is evaluating the nature of the problem and the context, so that it generates the relevant debates that will aid in making the right conclusions (Schwalbe 36). Also, it is necessary to recognize that mindful skepticism is also allowed as it offers alternative views to a situation. To be sociologically mindful one also have to evaluate what is considered as the truth (Schwalbe 39). More so, one has to be open to different perspectives of the world.

The argument presented by Michael Schwalbe is very convincing. The information offered creates an understanding of the process through which one should conclude a particular group. As such one can also evaluate the current assumptions and stereotypes, evaluate them and understand which of them may be incorrect. Notably, there are some key terms in the article used technically. The word includes logical deduction that means the process of reasoning through the relevant premises to a situation to conclude (Schwalbe 33). Also, the word empirical in this context is used technically, indicating that the answer would be measurable, an aspect that is difficult in the social world (Schwalbe 36). Conclusively, logical deduction enables one to become socially mindful, hence avoiding bias and misconceptions about social groups............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
