Spirituality is a necessity in the field of nursing and therefore it is a moral obligation for nurses to respect the spiritual subscriptions of their patients.

Nurses have an ethical obligation to address the issue of spirituality. It is of importance to ensure that ethical and spiritual dimensions of nursing are considered. It comes out that nursing cannot offer a patient holistic care if it denies him/her spiritual needs. Spirituality adds value to the wellbeing of a patient (Cadge & Bandini, 2015). It ensures that an individual acquires hope and courage to face a serious health situation. The issue of spirituality ensures that a patient gains faith and peace of mind.

The human body has been known to respond to stimuli from the mind. Therefore, when a patient is in a situation where they feel understood, it speeds up their healing process. Nurses must ensure that a patient understands the importance of inner peace as far as health goes (Timmins et al., 2016). Some of the issues that see people hospitalized emanate from the lack of the above mentioned qualities in life. For instance, if an individual is in mental anguish, their bodies could acquire an illness. Spiritual aspects like faith could ensure that a patient understands the existence of something bigger than his/her illness.
