Statistical concepts Essay
Statistical concepts are fundamental in health care because they aid in carrying out research work in any health care institution. Statistical data used in health care can be obtained through measurements and observations by the health care professionals to be used in making important decisions about a patient’s health status. Statistical data makes it easier for health care institutions to carry out a statistical analysis that helps in evaluating the performance of that specific institution (Cheng, & Phillips, 2014). Hospitals may also improve their efficiency through the introduction and implementation of data-driven quality-controlled programs. Statistical information is used by health care institutions to measure the population that a health care institution serves, which makes planning easier. Demographic statistical information helps in determining the race, age, income, and sex of the people seeking services from health care institutions. Statistical data plays a vital role in the allocation of resources to be used in the provision of quality services. Resources allocation is directly related to production efficiency because it prevents the risks of health care trade-offs (Raghupathi, & Raghupathi, 2014).
Needs analysis is also made easier by statistical information because it guides the health care institutions on what the population that they serve needs. The primary aim of any health care institution is to provide services and products that meet the needs of their patients and thus it would be very wise for the institution to analyze the patient's needs. By understanding the needs of the patients, it becomes easier for the institution to improve on the quality of services provided (Ott, & Longnecker, 2015). An example of how nurses can use statistical data is a nurse having to utilize the available statistics to determine the likelihood of having to wait before making decisions in the emergency room. If the statistics give room to wait before making the decision the nurse can wait, otherwise he/she is expected to act immediately to curb the situation..........................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
