Texas Bathroom Bill Paper
Over the years, the LGBT community has made efforts to transform the institutions that prevent them from having equal rights and freedoms as the heterosexual people. One area that the community focuses on is the bathroom bill, which provides the exclusion or inclusion of transgender persons in public toilets. Various states have the reviewed the bathroom bill to acknowledge the interests of the LGBT. But, the state of Texas continues to discriminate the transgender individuals in its bathroom bill by keeping them from using public restrooms that align with their gender identity. This paper investigates the importance of an inclusive bathroom bill that accommodates the needs of the LGBT to challenge the adamant policies and beliefs of the Texas Bathroom Bill.
An inclusive bathroom bill is a representation of a democratic society that recognizes the interests of all persons regardless of their distinct characteristics. Over the decades, the disadvantaged groups have championed for their rights and freedoms (McGaughy). For instance, the women fought for voting rights and gender equality and the African Americans wanted to abolish slavery and acquire equal citizenship rights as the Whites. Similarly, by providing an inclusive bathroom bill in Texas, the state will have acknowledged the interests of the LGBT and eliminated one area that openly discriminates the group.
By instituting a policy that prevents the transgender people from choosing the public toilets to use, the Texas politicians drove companies away, threatening the future prospects of the state and wasting the parliament’s time, which would have been used on critical issues like property taxes and education (Rodriguez-Ortiz). Majority of the American citizens have recognized the LGBT persons; hence, they cannot support the bathroom bill enacted by Texas. Consequentially, major businesses will leave or avoid investing in the state to express their support for an inclusive bathroom bill.................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
