The Chesapeake Colonies Paper

 

  1. The Chesapeake Colonies consisted of the Dominion and Colony of Virginia and Maryland Province. They were both controlled by British America and situated on the Chesapeake Bay. The members of the colony grew slowly in the 17th century because of the malignant disease environment in which the areas were located, which led to stagnant water, salt poisoning, mosquitoes, and water pollution.[1] Almost half of the population in the regions consists of indentured servants, who were the main victims of water-related illnesses, such as dysentery, malaria, and typhus. The rest of the members of the society were the White settlers, who owned the tobacco plantations.
  2. The church was the main political center of the colonies, which meant that the colonists had to pay taxes to support the religious centers, whether they were Christians or not. However, church followership was not as important in the areas as it was in the New England colonies since they had fewer churches and clergymen due to the high mortality rate. Aside from the church, Virginia formulated county courts that were almost similar to the ones in England as the colonial government structure.[2] The royal governor selected peace justices, who implemented tax rates and oversaw the construction and maintenance of community projects, such as roads and bridges. Additionally, the governor appointed the colonial assembly, comprising of the appointed Governor’s council and the House of Burgesses.

The Chesapeake Colonies were ruled by the British Americas since the areas were their colonies. The British Americans owned the plantations and controlled the administrative processes in the regions. They also indentured African, Native American, and other
