The devil’s advocate Paper

I would also prefer an innovator in an organization, as well as the devil’s advocate to provide the extra guidance and push to refine the ideas of the innovator. Every successful business requires both the innovator and the devil’s advocate. A devil is an individual who rains on the parade of others by shooting down suggestions and ideas before they get an opportunity to be implemented. Such a person, though viewed negatively, can produce the best efforts and ideas in an organization (Dewey, 2014). The devil’s advocate provides a balance in a company with numerous innovators because he/she highlights and challenges flaws in strategy, assessment, and planning.

As an example, a group of employees is tasked with a new initiative, such as developing the website for the firm. As the team leader, I would source innovators to generate diverse and suitable ideas to make the site efficient and outstanding. However, I will also need a few people who will provide fresh perspectives regarding the functions of the website, the shortcomings, redundancies, and the areas that need to be improved and rectified before allowing users and customers to visit the site.

The primary elements that can make an effective devil’s advocate are assigning the role to a team member at the beginning of the process, ensuring that the rest of the group understands the role of the devil to prevent them from taking things personally, encouraging the members to set their egos aside, and equipping the devil’s advocate with the appropriate communication skills so that he or she does not sound offensive or confrontational (Mui, 2014). It is vital to understand that too much positivity is not good in an organization because it can create laxity and indecisiveness. Hence, every firm must strive to introduce a devil’s advocate in minor and major decision-making processes.....................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
