The Personal Ethics Plan Essay

If someone would have asked me a few years ago whether I have found my voice, I would have been uncertain. For many years, I lived my life to please people, from the way I talked, behaved, and worked. I had to change the tone of my voice to be more professional and learn several languages to fit into the customer service department. I also had to be courteous and polite to people even though I had a bad day at home or work and I was tired. Finding your voice is not an easy thing. It takes courage, self-awareness, and having the right people on your corner, whether they are mentors or a support system (Gentile, 2010).

Many people who do not use their voice are driven by fear and the need to please others so that they can get ahead in life. In unethical situations, they do not want to feel like the odd one in the bunch by declining things that appear interesting and worthwhile in the short-run. I learned in my first workplace that the people who wanted to get a promotion quicker and the attention of the boss had to agree with his decisions and aid in fulfilling them. The biggest drawback with losing your voice is lacking self-identity and interest in the work that you do, and, it is at this point that I decided to finally discover my voice.

Finding my voice started at home with a simple decline to help my family and friends with money whereas I did not have enough funds to survive on and I wanted to do personal things, including starting a business and moving into a better neighborhood. It went on to my workplace where I stopped telling my supervisor that I was doing great and could handle more workload. The extra work was affecting my work-life balance and health. It took a lot of strength for me not to do overtime because I viewed it as a missed opportunity for a promotion or favors from the boss. However, by reducing my workload, I became more vibrant and vocative at work ...............GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
