Title IX, The Women’s Sport Foundations’ essay
Title IX is a law provision of 1972 that is aimed at championing for gender equity in sports. The law attracted numerous views from diverse people. Some people argued that the law was good while others labelled it controversial. Title IX has critics as well as supporters from all genders in the United States.
I have heard a lot of information regarding Title IX. There are people who celebrate the idea while others castigate it as unfair. Some people argue that it favors women while putting women at a disadvantaged position (O'Reilly 324). Most women argue that the law is important for women since they are disadvantaged in many ways. They claim that women and men are created differently. According to them, men are born with more physical strength and thus women require an added advantage (Theberge and Birrell 167).
The things I have heard about Title IX shape how I think about and understand the role of women in sports and U.S culture. It comes out that women have a duty to play in the area of sports. Some women support the idea of Title IX dominating the law whereas others do not. Therefore, we see that some women stand up for men who they feel are oppressed by the law (Hardin and Whiteside 256). Some sportswomen feel that in some instances the law favors them at the expense of their male counterparts. It comes out that the culture of the U.S supports equality at all levels of the society including sports (“Sport structures: Title IX & AIAW” 4)......GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
