The first responders should prepare themselves for the situation by learning as much as possible about their role as possible so as to respond well and reduce the chances of being traumatically affected by the event. Also, to avoid stress, the first responders themselves should learn to work in teams and communicate or talk to their team members, family members, and friends so as to reduce the effects of stress on them. Resilience among first responders also requires them to engage in other stress relieving techniques such as exercises and writing or reading.
