  1. I grew up in a household with parents who were union members. Hence, my position is inclined towards pro-unionism mainly because I have seen the benefits of a union from my parents. My mother’s union saved her job when she was about to be wrongly sacked for missing work for several days due to pregnancy complications. Unions improve the job conditions, benefits, and wages of their members. They also secure the laws that protect employees, from racial and gender discrimination to workplace safety policies.

The Norris La Guardia Act protects the rights of workers to bargain and organize collectively. The policy is still relevant and vital in limiting the federal government from prohibiting strikes or discontinuing workers in protest, as well as prohibiting unionizing, picketing, and assembling. The Wagner Act, officially known as the National Labor Relations Act, preserves the rights of employees to join unions and organize and bargain with employers collectively. The law is vital in preventing specific actions, such as firing or threatening workers for joining a union, providing benefits to laborers for them not to join a union, and terminating employees for filing an unfair labor practice lawsuit. The Labor Management Relations or Tart-Hartley Act reserves the rights of workers to join unions, but also outlaws the closed shops, giving them the right to decline to engage in a union. It also places a restriction on the unions’ contribution to politics and requires unions to provide advanced notification for a strike (Legree, Schirle & Skuterud, 2017). The law’s relevance is to protect employers and consumers, who may also be affected by the unions’ activities in situations where strikes are abrupt and lead to costly damages.

The issue of CEO reimbursement is always a bone of contention in many companies. I would not have made the decision to reduce the salaries of talented and loyal workers. It was unfair for CVS to lower their wages without focusing on those of the CEOs who receive the highest salaries in the company. Such a move can affect the motivation and productivity adversely since the loyal and hardworking employees no longer have the incentive of giving their best to the company (Scott, 2017).
