Work Management Challenge Essay

  • Discuss the relationship between average hourly rate (AHR) vs. Overtime and the full time equivalent and the average daily census.

In a business environment, the average hourly rate is the approximated mean rate an employee is paid per the hours they have worked (Zimmermann, 2012). Overtime, on the other hand, is the amount of money paid to employees on the basis of the extra hours that they have worked (Zimmermann, 2012). Full time equivalent is a term given to the ratio units when an employee works the fulltime (Zimmermann, 2012).  For instance, if the full time working hours of an employee is 40 hours in week, their full time equivalent is 100 allocated. Hence, their FTE is 2.5 in a healthcare environment, the average daily consensus refers to the average number of patients admitted in a stipulated period of time (Zimmermann, 2012).

  • Workforce Management Challenge/ Conflict

A keen observation of the health care sector reveals that there are several challenges that are experienced by both the patients and the workforce. For instance, the biggest challenge that is delineated in this sector is the increase of poor quality health care that has bolstered the burden of both costs and ailments amongst patients across the world (Nucklos et al 2013). The low quality healthcare provision is illustrated by erroneous diagnosis, unnecessary or misappropriate treatments, precarious clinical practices, inadequate clinics and hospitals, lack of sufficient training and skilled expertise within the healthcare industry (Nucklos et al 2013).  This quality of care acutely encroaches with the values of patients towards doctors and nurses. It infringes with their trust and reliability towards the care givers.
