Zeitoun- Book Review

“Zeitoun” is a book written in 2009 by Dave Eggers. Its publishing was done by McSweeney’s whereby it spoke about Hurricane Katrina. The book features the story of a Syrian man named Abdulrahman Zeitoun who lived in New Orleans. It comes out that his family property was ravaged by the Hurricane and he was harassed by American authorities. Zeitoun utilizes imagery to bring out a situation where Hurricane Katrina survivors suffered victimization from the federal government as opposed to disaster aid.

The book brings out the situation whereby innocent people were harassed by federal authorities following Hurricane Katrina. It is evident that Zeitoun wanted to ensure that his family and property remained safe (Google.com). The reason is because the book shows how he returned to his home to see the extent of the damage inflicted by the disaster. The book utilizes vivid imagination to ensure that the predicament of Zeitoun is brought out. The book brings out a situation where his property was engulfed by water to a height of 9 feet. Therefore, Zeitoun had to ensure that his property was rescued in addition to helpless neighbors.

The book uses imagery to ensure that the predicament of Zeitoun is felt by a reader. Here, it comes out that federal authorities and local government officials focused on abusing residents instead of helping them. It can be seen that the officers applied excessive force on the people of New Orleans in disregard of their suffering (Google.com). Zeitoun and other innocent Americans were arrested and were not even allowed to speak to members of their families. Their human rights were ignored and abused courtesy of the President Bush administration. It comes out that Zeitoun was accused of belonging to the Al-Qaeda because of his Arab roots.................GET A PLAGIARISM FREE COPY
